Hodges – ‘Moments That Matter’ Case Study

During the intense Victorian lockdowns of 2021, our client was undergoing a major brand refresh and Good Gravy was preparing to roll on a new production.

The Client: Hodges Real Estate

You’ve likely seen their signs or offices in some of Victoria’s most influential areas. After all Hodges is the longest running real estate agency in Victoria with over 165 years of experience. They are recognised for their outstanding history, service, and local knowledge. Hodges understands that there are many different emotions and moments on a property journey; and we were tasked in helping them communicate that to everyone.

The Project: Making Moments Matter

As part of the new brand strategy by our friends at Atollon (https://atollon.com.au/), Good Gravy Media was engaged to create a full marketing collateral including video content and photography to be used across Hodges’ website, social media platforms and for a TVC campaign. Thanks to the great work done by Atollon, we were able to tailor our work to the concept of “moments” to create emotive and inspirational content.

Creative Process

After diving deeper into the needs and goals of Hodges, we identified their four core services and the key target markets for each offering. At this point, we decided to focus on building a multi-video solution that would connect deeply with each customer journey and strategically utilise the budget to provide the ultimate outcome.

Our answer was to create four separate videos exploring the different customer journeys for each core service. We wanted to focus on making the customers being the heroes of these journeys and showcasing their property moments – the moments that the audience will resonate with and/or aspire to achieve.

To expand the use of the content, these four videos would create two additional videos showing the parallel stories that occur for the ‘buying and selling’ journeys and the ‘investing and leasing’ journeys as well as an overarching brand video and a TV commercial.

To bring this concept all together, we used pre-visualisations in the forms of storyboards and reference material to help us to convey our vision for each storyline and piece of content. Along this journey, we had a few revisions through our collaborations with Hodges which strengthened the overall project and created a unified vision moving forward.

Video Production

With the concept finalised and signed off, it was time to get the show rolling and underway. Planning a production schedule during Melbourne’s lockdowns provided a challenge but it allowed us to be prepared and work towards a goal for when restrictions were lifted. Fortunately, we were able to accurately predict the easing of restrictions in our original timelines and plan accordingly with each announcement.

Production was done across 4 days and 5 locations with an incredible and hard working team that brought the project to life. For a lot of our crew, it was the first job that they had in months and first time that someone of us had seen each other in months. The full list of credits can be found at the end of this post.

A big thanks to our DOP on this shoot was Samuel Baulch – an ACS SIlver Award Winning cinematographer – who was there from . Sam’s extensive understanding of lighting was priceless in crafting together incredible images and bringing the narratives to life. He also did some movie magic in post production and you would never even know it but it’s the little things that count.

Talking about incredible work in post production that you might not notice, our sound design was done by Ryan Granger from Dead on Sound. His work is subtle but it truly brought the TVC and wonderful work of our production crew to life.
